How Coaching Turned a Job Offer Into an $8K Win

Here’s the situation: imagine you’re about five years into your career. You’ve been working at the same company since graduating college, steadily climbing the corporate ladder. But somewhere along the way, you started to plateau. You like your job, but it doesn’t feel quite right anymore. Before complacency sets in, it’s time to think about your next move.

This was exactly where a client of mine found themselves. In just six months, we transformed uncertainty into clarity, and their job search into tangible results that set them up for long-term career success.

The Approach:

We used the Now What Method to guide their through this career transition:

  1. Pause: We examined what was working and not working in their current job and life. What made them feel valued? What drained their energy?

  2. Unpack: We defined their career direction and values to understand what they truly wanted from their next role - flexibility, growth opportunities, meaningful work and recognition.

  3. Redefine: Together, we clarified what mattered most. Was it salary? Work-life balance? Learning Opportunities? Advancement potential?

  4. Rebuild: We created a targeted job application and networking strategy, practiced interview frameworks, and built their confidence in negotiation conversations.

By following this method, they had a clear plan and the tools to navigate their job search strategically and confidently.

They began applying strategically and networking with confidence. They secured multiple interviews and soon received an offer from a company they were extremely excited about.

We reviewed the offer together, considering all compensation, bonuses, and benefits. I encouraged them to negotiate, even though they felt nervous. Negotiation conversations are uncomfortable, but necessary. After practicing their approach, they called the company and had an honest conversation.

The result? The company called back within hours with an offer $8,000 higher than the original, and even adjusted their start date to accommodate much-needed time off between roles. To put that in perspective, that extra $8K would have taken most people at least two years to earn.

The Value of Coaching

This case study illustrates the true value of having a coach:

  • Coaching helped them see possibilities they might never have considered on their own.

  • Having someone in their corner made high-stakes conversations less intimidating.

  • Most importantly, coaching transformed their career trajectory in just six months.

This is the difference between going it alone and having a strategic partner in your career.

If you’re feeling stuck, undervalued, or unsure about your next move, coaching can help you gain clarity, build confidence, and achieve results like this.
